Setting up your timezones and Posting Schedules

Each of your connected social accounts will have its own timezone and Posting Schedule. Each time that you configure here becomes a time slot in your Queue. Then, when you're scheduling posts, you don't need to think about the date and time each one should be published, all you need to do is add them to your Queue and they'll automatically be placed into the next available time slots and published as part of your usual posting flow.

Please note, only the account owner and users with Full Posting Access are able to update the Posting Schedule.

Adjusting your timezone

As opposed to having an account-wide timezone, you're able to configure the timezone for each of your connected social accounts. This allows you to publish content at the most appropriate times for your audiences.

Timezones are automatically adjusted for Daylight Savings times where this practice is observed.

You can adjust the timezone and Posting Schedule for a specific social account by clicking Settings, and then selecting the Posting Schedule tab.

Click inside the Timezone field and start typing the first few letters of the city you'd like to set it to. Click on the city when it pops up and you should be all set!

To add new times to your schedule, select the day or days you'd like to add the times to, as well as the time itself, and then click Add Posting Time.

Times can be adjusted by clicking on the hours or minutes drop downs and changing as desired. Times can be deleted by hovering over the time and clicking the x icon.

Individual days can also be turned off by toggling the day to off. If a day is turned off, it means that no time slots will appear in your Queue for that day, even if you have times configured in your schedule. However, any posts scheduled for a custom date and time will still be sent.

How the default posting times are chosen for your schedule

When you connect a social account to Buffer Publish, some default times will be added to your Posting Schedule. The times chosen are semi-random and not based on your own engagement data. In short, we will pick random times during a normal working day, and the number of times chosen will depend on the type of social account you've connected.

We like to pre-select some times so that you're not presented with an empty Posting Schedule. With this in mind, we would recommend updating your Posting Schedule based on your own testing and data.

Here's a run down of the posting times that will be pre-selected:

  • Facebook: Two posting times, one between 8am and 12pm and another between 4pm and 6pm.
  • Instagram & Pinterest: Four posting times, one between 9am and 11am, another between 12pm and 2pm, another between 5pm and 7pm and another between 8pm and 10pm.
  • Twitter: Four posting times, one between 8am and 10am, another between 12pm and 2pm, another between 4pm and 6pm and another between 8pm and 10pm.
  • LinkedIn: Two posting times, one between 9am and 12pm and another between 3pm and 6pm.
