Disabling direct scheduling for Instagram in the mobile app

Instagram works a bit differently than other social networks, and not all posts can be published automatically. Buffer offers both direct scheduling (posts that can be published automatically) and reminders (posts that you’ll receive a push notification for). Learn more about this here.

📝 This article is designed to help users with the Buffer mobile app. All instructions and screenshots are taken from the iOS app, and any steps that are different on Android are noted. You can find the desktop version of this article here.

If you would prefer for all posts to be scheduled and sent as reminders, you can control this behavior in the settings area of the mobile app.

  1. Tap the menu bar in the upper left corner of the app (three horizontal lines).
  2. Select the Instagram channel where you want to adjust the reminders settings.
  3. Tap Settings in the lower right corner of the screen.
  4. Under the "Instagram" area, toggle "Disable Direct Scheduling" ON.
