Buffer browser extension on the mobile app

The Buffer browser extension makes sharing content even quicker and easier! It allows you to open the composer on any web page on your phone, and add posts right to your queue, without having to go back to your dashboard.

Installing the extension on iOS

  1. Once you've installed the Buffer app on your iOS device, open Safari (or whichever mobile browser you commonly use) and tap the share icon.
  2. At the far end of the row of app icons, tap More (you may need to scroll to the right if you already have lots of icons here).
  3. Tap Edit and then tap the + icon to the right of Buffer in the Suggestions section to move it into the Favorites section above. You can also reorder your icons here if you'd like to move Buffer further towards the top if you plan to use it frequently.
  4. Then, tap Done.

Sharing content using the extension on iOS

  1. Whenever you come across a piece of content online that you would like to add to your queue, tap the share icon in your mobile browser.

  1. From there, tap Buffer.
  2. The Buffer app will open, with the title and link already included in the composer (excluding Facebook), which you can then use to form your message. Select the social channels you'd like to include by tapping the + icon at the top of your screen.
  3. Schedule your post as you usually would within the iOS app. Guidance on media and scheduling options can be found here.

Sharing content using the extension on Android

The extension comes pre-installed when downloading the Buffer Android app, so you don't need to take any additional steps to install it. Follow the steps below to start scheduling posts.

  1. Whenever you come across a piece of content online that you would like to add to your queue, tap the three dot menu at the top right of your browser and then tap Share.

  2. From there, tap Buffer.

  1. The Buffer app will open, with the title and link already included in the composer (excluding Facebook), which you can then use to form your message. Select the social channels you'd like to include by tapping the + icon at the top of your screen.

📝 Please note: As of February, 2021, if you add a link to your post that points to anything published on Facebook or Instagram, Buffer will no longer generate a link preview. Learn more about this change here.

Creating ideas using the Buffer mobile extension on iOS

If you're browsing a website on your phone and want to save it for later, but aren't ready to create a post, you can add the website link as an idea in Buffer with just a few taps. 

  1. When you're on the website that you want to share, tap the share icon in your mobile browser.
  2. On the share screen, scroll down until you see Save for Later.

  3. This will open the Ideas composer with the URL of the website pasted in it. Add any additional text you like and then tap Save. 

To access your saved ideas:

  1. Open the Buffer mobile app. 
  2. Tap the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the upper left corner.
  3. Tap Content. 
  4. This should display all of your saved ideas. Tap an idea to edit or convert your idea to a draft or post. 

Creating an idea with the extension on Android

  1. When you're on the website that you want to share, tap the three dot menu at the top right of your browser and then tap Share.

  1. This will open the Ideas composer with the URL of the website pasted in it. Add any additional text you like and then tap Save. 

To access your saved ideas:

  1. Open the Buffer mobile app.
