Creating ideas in the Buffer mobile app

The inspiration for creating great content can strike anytime or anywhere. When this happens, it should be easy to save your thoughts in one central place so you can access them when you’re ready to turn them into the perfect post. With Ideas, you can store all of your creative concepts in one place and access them across Buffer.

If you’re away from your computer when you get inspired, you can simply open the Buffer mobile app, create a new idea and jot down a few notes or add images, links, or GIFs for later. Come back to your idea later on the web or in the app, edit your idea to add more thoughts, or turn them into drafts or published posts when you're ready.

Jot down details for a future marketing campaign, start dreaming up concepts for a holiday sale, or brainstorm images for a product launch. Once you’re ready to start planning your posts, look closer at those ideas and choose the ones you’d like to build out and move to drafts or the queue.

You can think of Ideas as the starting place for your content creation process, so you can find them within the new "Content" menu of the mobile app.

📝 Ideas is available on our Free, Essentials, Team, and Agency plans. If you are a legacy customer on our Pro, Premium, or Business plans and would like to switch to our new pricing, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help! 3. A pop-up message should appear asking you to confirm. Tap Delete Idea and you're done!

Scheduling a draft or post from an idea in the mobile app

Once you’re ready to start drafting a post from your idea, you can either schedule it as a draft or schedule it as a post.

A draft is helpful to use once you’re further along in the content creation process and know where you want to post, but aren’t ready to publish your post yet. Drafts are a great space to continue building out your content concepts.

If your idea feels polished and ready to be published, you can use our scheduling options to create a scheduled post.

To do this:

  1. Tap the post that is ready to be published or scheduled as a draft.
  2. Once the composer opens, tap the paper airplane icon in the right corner.
  3. The composer will open and the social channel you were viewing before opening the composer will already be selected. If you'd like to share to multiple channels, tap the + icon and then tap any channels you'd like to include. You'll then need to tap Done at the top right of your screen. (On Android, you'll need to tap the back arrow at the top right of your screen after choosing the channels you'd like to share to).
  4. Tap Next.
  5. From here, you can choose to Schedule as Draft to save your post as a draft across Buffer OR you can schedule it as a post by choosing your sharing method:
    • Share Now: Your posts will be published immediately, essentially skipping the queue.
    • Share Next: Your posts will be saved at the top of your queues and be the next ones to be published. Other posts in your queues will be bumped down one time slot. This option is not available on the Free plan.
    • Schedule Post: You will be able to choose a custom date and time in the future for the posts to be shared. This option is called "Custom schedule" on Android.
    • Add to Queue: Your posts will be added to the bottom of your queues, in the next available time slots from your posting schedule.

  6. As a final step, a pop-up should appear and ask if you’d like to Keep Idea or Discard Idea. Select Keep Idea to save your idea for the future or Discard Idea to delete it.

Creating a Shortcut for Ideas in iOS
