Using Mentions in Buffer Community
The Mentions tab in Community brings every @mention of your connected social channels into one place, so you can catch conversations happening about your brand, not just on your own posts. When someone tags your handle, you can see it and reply without leaving Buffer.
⭐️ This feature is currently in Beta in the web version of Buffer and available for X (Twitter) only. We'll be rolling it out to more networks over time. Learn more about How to test Buffer's Beta features here.

What you'll see in Mentions
Each individual mention will show:
- The platform and account the mention came from
- The original post containing your @mention, including any attached images or videos
- Thread context where available. Click Show more replies to see the surrounding conversation

Replying to a mention
- Go to the Community tab and select Mentions from the left sidebar.
- Find the mention you'd like to respond to.
- Click the mention to open the composer.
- Type your response or use a suggested reply.
- Press Enter or click the paper airplane icon (Send) to post.

Liking a mention
On X (Twitter), you can like a mention directly from Community by clicking the ❤️ icon in the mention card header. Click it again to unlike.
📝 Good to know: Liking mentions is currently supported for X (Twitter) only. Support for other platforms will be added as their APIs allow it.
Resolving mentions
Once you've reviewed or replied to a mention, you can mark it as resolved to keep your Mentions tab tidy.
To resolve a single mention, click the resolve icon on the mention card. Click it again to undo.
Want to clear out multiple mentions in one go? Use the bulk resolve options:
- In the Mentions tab, click the ✔️ (checkmark) menu in the top right corner above the mentions list.
- Choose All mentions to resolve everything in the current view, or Older than 1 month to clear only mentions older than 30 days.
- Confirm your selection.
A success message confirms how many mentions were resolved (for example, "5 mentions were resolved").
📝 Good to know: Unlike bulk-resolving comments, there's no "For this post" option for mentions, since mentions aren't tied to a specific post of yours the same way comments are.

How Mentions works on X (Twitter)
When someone @-tags your X handle in a post, it appears in your Community Mentions tab in near real-time, the same speed as X comments. This works automatically for any X channel connected to Buffer, with no setup required.
📝 Good to knows:
- Mentions backfill up to 30 days on channel connection or reconnection, the same window used for posts and comments.
- Mentions in Community are currently available on web only. Mobile app support isn't available yet.
- Replying to or resolving a mention doesn't currently affect your Comment Score or your unread comment counters. This is expected while the feature is in Beta and may change as it matures.
FAQ
Which social networks support Mentions?
Mentions in Community currently supports X (Twitter) only. We plan to bring Mentions to more networks over time.
Does a mention count toward my Comment Score?
Not currently. Mentions are tracked separately from comments while the feature is in Beta, so replying to or resolving a mention won't move your Comment Score.
Can I use Mentions on the Buffer mobile app?
Not yet. Mentions in Community is currently a web-only experience.
