Quick guide to Instagram connections

Meta/Facebook requires very specific settings in order to connect your Instagram and Facebook accounts. Additionally, your Facebook settings affect your ability to connect your Instagram accounts to Buffer (even if you don’t plan to connect your Facebook Page to Buffer!).
Here are the core settings that need to be in place for you to connect your Instagram and/or Facebook Page to Buffer:

✅ Instagram needs to be a Business or Creator Instagram account.

✅ Instagram needs to be connected to its own Facebook Page (Profiles and Professional Profiles aren’t supported).

✅ An Admin with “full control” needs to connect the Page.

✅ All permissions for all Pages and Instagram accounts need to be selected (even for those you are not connecting to your Buffer account).

Top common issues when connecting Instagram/Facebook:

  • Not seeing the right Instagram account listed, or getting this error? ”Whoops! We couldn’t find any Instagram accounts connected to that Facebook account.” You’ll want to update the permissions in Facebook to accept everything.
  • Don’t have a Facebook Page to connect Instagram to? Meta requires that your Instagram account be connected to a Facebook page in order to connect it to Buffer, so you’ll need to create a Facebook Page and then link it to Instagram.
