YouTube error library
When using a scheduling tool like Buffer, there will be instances when a social network refuses the post and replies with an error message. Find your error below and follow the troubleshooting steps to get back on track.
Didn't receive confirmation the post was published
Error message: "We did not receive confirmation from YouTube that this post was published. It may have published successfully — please check your YouTube channel before retrying."
Why this happens: Buffer sent your video to YouTube, but didn't get a response back confirming the upload finished processing before the connection closed. In most cases, the video actually did publish successfully on YouTube's end.
What to do:
- Check your YouTube channel to see if the video published.
- If it did, delete the failed post from your Buffer queue.
- If it didn't, retry the post from your queue.
Video upload timed out
Error message: "Your video upload to YouTube timed out, so we did not receive confirmation that this post was published. It may have published successfully — please check your YouTube channel before retrying."
Why this happens: Buffer sent your video to YouTube, but the upload timed out before YouTube confirmed it was received. Large videos are more likely to time out. In some cases the video still publishes successfully on YouTube's end.
What to do:
- Check your YouTube channel to see if the video published.
- If it did, delete the failed post from your Buffer queue.
- If it didn't, retry the post from your queue.
- If you see this error more than once for the same video, contact our support team and include a link to the failed post.
