Flagging posts as AI-generated in Buffer

As AI-labeling requirements become more common across social platforms and some US states, Buffer makes it easy to flag your content when it's been created or edited with AI. When you enable the AI-generated toggle on a post, Buffer passes that disclosure directly to the network at publish time so the platform's own native AI label appears on your post automatically.

What is the AI-generated disclosure?

When you toggle AI-Generated on in the Buffer composer, Buffer sends a signal to the social network telling it the post was created or edited with AI. The network then applies its own native AI-content label to your published post — you don't have to log into each platform separately to add the disclosure.

This is separate from Buffer's AI Assistant. You can use the toggle on any post, whether or not it was written with Buffer's AI tools.

Which networks support it?

The AI-Generated toggle is available for:

  • TikTok — video posts only (not photo posts)
  • YouTube Shorts
  • X (Twitter) — original tweets only (not retweets)

The toggle won't appear in the composer for networks that don't accept an AI-content disclosure flag.

How to flag a post as AI-generated in Buffer

  1. Open the Buffer composer and select a supported channel (TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or X).
  2. Write your post as usual.
  3. In the composer, locate the AI-Generated toggle — it appears below the post content area.
  4. Flip the toggle to on.

  5. Schedule or publish your post as normal.

Buffer will include the AI disclosure when it sends your post to the network.

💡 Tip: The toggle only appears for networks that support AI-content disclosure. If you don't see it, check that you're composing for TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or X.

How to spot flagged posts in your queue and calendar

After scheduling a flagged post, you'll see a small ✨ sparkles icon on the post card in both your Queue and Calendar views.

Hover over the icon to see the tooltip: "Flagged as AI-generated content."

This lets you scan your scheduled content at a glance and confirm which posts have the disclosure enabled before they go out.

Good to Knows

📝 Good to Knows:

  • Reminder posts: The AI-Generated toggle isn't available on reminder posts. Because reminder posts are published natively from your phone, Buffer can't send the disclosure to the network on your behalf.
  • TikTok photo posts: TikTok only accepts the AI-content label on video posts. The toggle won't appear on photo posts — and if you switch a TikTok post's media from video to photos, the toggle will disappear.
  • X retweets: X only accepts the AI-content label on original tweets — not retweets. The toggle won't appear when composing a retweet.

FAQ

Does using the AI-Generated toggle mean I used Buffer's AI Assistant?

No. The toggle is independent of Buffer's AI Assistant. You can enable it on any post — whether it was written entirely by you, assisted by AI tools, or generated with Buffer's AI Assistant. It's simply a way to send a disclosure to the network.

What happens if I switch a TikTok post's media from video to photos after turning on the AI-Generated toggle?

The toggle will disappear. TikTok only supports the AI-content label on video posts, so if you change the media type to photos, the disclosure option is removed from the composer.

Will the AI label look the same across TikTok, YouTube, and X?

No — each platform controls how it displays the AI-content label. Buffer sends the disclosure signal; what you see on the published post depends on how each network renders it. Check the platform's own documentation for details on what their label looks like.

Can I remove the AI-generated disclosure after I've already scheduled a post?

Yes. Open the scheduled post in Buffer, toggle AI-Generated back off, and save your changes. The disclosure will not be sent when the post publishes.

Is there a way to see all my AI-flagged posts in one place?

Currently there isn't a dedicated filter for AI-flagged posts. You can identify them by the ✨ sparkles icon on post cards in your Queue and Calendar views.
