Connecting your Facebook Page or Group to Buffer Publish

In order to connect a Facebook Page or Group to your Buffer Publish account, we'll need to authenticate through your personal Facebook Profile that has the required permissions. Whilst we authenticate your Facebook Pages and Groups through your personal Profile, we won't access your personal information or publish content on your Profile.

This article contains the following sections:

  1. Connecting your Facebook Page
  2. Connecting your Facebook Group
  3. What to do if your Page or Group is not listed

Connecting your Facebook Page

In order to connect a Facebook Page, we'll need to authenticate through your personal Facebook Profile that has the "Page Admin" or "Page Editor" role on the Page you're looking to connect. Learn more about Facebook Page roles here.

  1. We recommend first logging into your Facebook Profile that has the required permissions.

You must log into your Facebook Profile that has the "Page Admin" or "Page Editor" role on the Page you're looking to connect. Whilst Facebook removed the ability to log in as your Page some time ago, it appears that some long-standing Facebook users are still able to do that. If you log into Facebook as your Page, this connection process will not work.

  2. In Publish, click Manage Social Accounts at the bottom of the left hand sidebar.

  3. Click Add a New Social Account and then click Facebook Page.

  4. Click Continue as [Name].

  5. Click OK. In this step, it's important not to change any of the permissions or uncheck any Pages.

  6. Click on the Page you'd like to connect. Not seeing your Page listed? Please jump here for further guidance.

Connecting your Facebook Group

In order to connect a Facebook Group, we'll need to authenticate through your personal Facebook Profile that has the "Admin" role on the Group you're looking to connect. It is not possible to connect Groups that you are only a member of. Learn more about Facebook Group roles here.

Notes

  • The steps for connecting your Group are slightly different depending on whether you're using Facebook classic or the new beta version of Facebook. Please follow the steps in the relevant section below.
  • You will need to complete these steps on a computer, as opposed to on a mobile device. The settings that need to be changed in Facebook are not available on mobile.
  • All posts published to a Facebook Group will appear as being posted by the Facebook member who connected the Group to Publish. Learn more about post attribution here.

What to do if your Page or Group is not listed

First, check that you have the correct Page or Group role. If you're connecting a Page, your personal Facebook Profile will need to have the "Page Admin" or "Page Editor" role on that Page. If you're connecting a Group, your personal Facebook Profile will need to have the "Admin" role on that Group. You can learn more about Page roles here, and learn more about Group roles here.

It's also important to note that it is not possible to connect a Facebook Page if you are a "Page Admin" through inheritance from a parent page. To find out, visit your Facebook Page, and find the Page Roles section within settings. If you see yourself listed under a section labelled "Admin (inherited from parent page)", then unfortunately you will not be able to authorize the connection between the Facebook Page and Publish.

If you have the correct Page or Group role and it's still not listed when walking through the connection steps in this guide, it means that Publish does not have the required permissions from Facebook. To resolve this, please follow these reauthorization steps and then try connecting your Page or Group again.
