Sharing Facebook and Instagram links through Buffer

If you've included a link in your post, a link preview will be automatically generated in the Buffer composer if you’re scheduling the post for Facebook and LinkedIn. You can learn more about link previews here.

However, if you are linking to a Facebook or Instagram post (such as sharing the URL of your latest Instagram post to your LinkedIn page or a link to a Facebook event on your Google Business Profile), you might notice Buffer is not generating a link preview for these. In the past, we were able to create those link previews, but this is no longer available due to changes we’ve made to stay aligned with Facebook’s Data Policy. We're sorry about this limitation. We're keeping a close eye on Facebook's guidelines to see if this changes in the future.

Whilst it's not possible to share such links as attachments, you can still share the link itself by only including the URL in the body of the post, without the link preview. The steps below outline how to do that.

  1. Click the Create Post button in the Buffer dashboard.
  2. Paste the link into Buffer's composer.
  3. Remove the link preview by clicking the small X at the top right. If you would like the post to be more visual, you might also like to manually upload your own image.
  4. Add the post to your queue using one of our scheduling options
