# Using Mentions in Buffer Community

The Mentions tab in Community brings every @mention of your connected social channels into one place, so you can catch conversations happening about your brand, not just on your own posts. When someone tags your handle, you can see it and reply without leaving Buffer.

:::info
**Notes**

* Your Mentions currently pull in for X (Twitter) only, but we'll be rolling it out to more networks over time.
* New to Community? Start with [Using Community in Buffer](https://support.buffer.com/en-us/articles/using-community-in-buffer-jvTv4uQacA) for how to reply to, sort, and manage comments on your own posts.

## What you'll see in Mentions

Each individual mention will show:

* The platform and account the mention came from
* The original post containing your @mention, including any attached images or videos
* Thread context where available. Click ***Show more replies*** to see the surrounding conversation
* Hover any channel in the Community sidebar to see a tooltip listing unanswered comments and unanswered mentions on separate lines.

## Replying to a mention

1. Go to the **Community** tab and select **Mentions** from the left sidebar.
2. Find the mention you'd like to respond to.
3. Click the mention to open the composer.
4. Type your response or use a suggested reply.
5. Press **Enter** or click the **paper airplane icon (Send)** to post.

## Liking a mention

On X (Twitter), you can like a mention directly from Community by clicking the ❤️ icon below the mention. Click it again to unlike.

:::info
**Good to know:** Liking mentions is currently supported for X (Twitter) only. Support for other platforms will be added as their APIs allow it.
:::

## Sharing a mention

Need a teammate to see a specific mention? Hover over any mention card and use the actions in the top right of the header:

* **Copy link** — copies a shareable URL to that mention. Anyone on your team with access to Community can open the link and land directly on that mention, with the full thread visible around it.
* **Open in new tab** — opens the original post on X so you can view it in context on the network itself.

Click the mention itself to open a full-screen preview with the full thread and the same reply, like, and resolve actions you have on the card.

## Resolving mentions

Once you've reviewed or replied to a mention, you can mark it as resolved to keep your Mentions tab tidy.

To resolve a single mention, click the resolve icon on the mention card. Click it again to undo.

Want to clear out multiple mentions in one go? Use the bulk resolve options:

1. In the **Mentions** tab, click the ✔️ (checkmark) menu in the top right corner above the mentions list.
2. Choose ***All mentions*** to resolve everything in the current view, or ***Older than 1 month*** to clear only mentions older than 30 days.
3. Confirm your selection.

A success message confirms how many mentions were resolved (for example, "5 mentions were resolved").

:::info
**Good to know:** Unlike bulk-resolving comments, there's no "For this post" option for mentions, since mentions aren't tied to a specific post of yours the same way comments are.

## Mentions counter and Dot mode

Community shows a count of unanswered mentions on the **Mentions** tab, matching how the **Comments** tab works. By default, that count also rolls into the overall **Community** badge in the left nav and into each channel's badge in the sidebar, so you can see everything that still needs a reply at a glance.

If you get a lot of mentions and would rather not see a growing number, you can switch on **Dot mode**. In Dot mode:

* The Mentions tab shows a small dot instead of a count when there's something new.
* Mentions no longer contribute to the general Community counter or the per-channel badges (comments still do).
* The dot clears once you've replied to or resolved every unanswered mention.

**To switch between Counter and Dot mode:**

1. Click your profile avatar and choose ***Settings***.
2. Open ***Preferences***.
3. Under **Mentions Counter**, pick ***Counter*** or ***Dot****.* The setting applies across all channels.

If you have more than 50 unanswered mentions, you'll also see a banner in Community offering to switch to Dot mode in one click. Dismiss it and it won't come back.

## How Mentions works on X (Twitter)

When someone @-tags your X handle in a post, it appears in your Community Mentions tab in near real-time, the same speed as X comments. This works automatically for any X channel connected to Buffer, with no setup required.

:::info
**Good to knows:**

* Mentions backfill up to 30 days on channel connection or reconnection, the same window used for posts and comments.
* Mentions in Community are available on web, iOS (v15.7 and up), and Android (v9.4.5 and up). On mobile, the Mentions tab lives inside Community alongside Comments.
* Mentions now contribute to your unread Community counters (Mentions tab, per-channel, and the overall Community badge) in Counter mode. In Dot mode, mentions show as a dot on the Mentions tab and are excluded from the general counter.

## FAQ

### Which social networks support Mentions?

Mentions in Community currently supports X (Twitter) only. We plan to bring Mentions to more networks over time.

### Does a mention count toward my Comment Score?

Not currently. Mentions are tracked separately from comments while the feature is in Beta, so replying to or resolving a mention won't move your Comment Score.

### Can I use Mentions on the Buffer mobile app?

Yes. Your mentions will show on the Buffer iOS app v15.7 and higher, as well os on the Buffer Android app v9.4.5 and higher. To find it, open **Community** in the app and tap the **Mentions** tab. If you don't see it yet, update to the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.
