Because Mastodon is decentralized, you'll need to join a server before you can connect Mastodon to Buffer. ::: ### Join a Mastodon server 1. Find the address of a server running the Mastodon software (called an *Instance*) that is accepting new sign-ups to join. * At Buffer, we chose the Mastodon World server, and you're welcome to [join us there](https://mastodon.world/invite/iUGVy5pH?ref=buffer.com) or you can also check out [Mastodon's servers list](https://joinmastodon.org/servers?ref=buffer.com) for potential servers to join. 2. Once you identify an instance you would like to join that’s also accepting new members, fill in the form and choose an ID. 3. Click *Sign Up* and wait for the confirmation email. 4. Head to 2. Select Mastodon. 3. Select the server you signed up with. You'll be asked to sign into your account to connect it to Buffer. To use Community on the desktop version of Buffer: 1. Select your Mastodon channel on the left menu. 2.
